THE BOOK OF SHADOWBOXES: A Story of the ABC's by Laura L. Seeley
THE BOOK OF SHADOWBOXES is an intriguing and delightful alphabet book filled with whimsical creatures, objects and people, and roots firmly planted in the childhood of its author/illustrator, Laura L. Seeley. From soaring airplanes to a zebra donning sunglasses, readers are enveloped in the enchanting world of Seeley's shadowboxes and the enchanting host, Shadow, a character dreamed up by the author when she was 10-years-old. Shadow not only guides readers through the alphabet, but, as an added treat, shadowbox mysteries are hidden in each picture to create a challenging find-the-object book that will keep readers interested long after they've mastered their ABC's. Seeley spent three years completing the intricate artwork for THE BOOK OF SHADOWBOXES, for which she was named 1990 Georgia Author of the Year for Juvenile Literature. She also wrote and illustrated THE MAGICAL MOONBALLS and MCSPOT'S HIDDEN SPOTS. Seeley is the illustrator of Mister Tom T. Hall's CHRISTMAS AND THE OLD HOUSE, AGATHA'S FEATHERBED by Carmen Agra Deedy, and CATS VANISH SLOWLY by Ruth Tiller. THE BOOK OF SHADOWBOXES is available in hardcover (suggested retail price: $16.95), and paperback ($8.95) at local book stores, or by calling (800) 241-0113. | |
